Earlier this morning Southampton confirmed that we had tied down Nathan Redmond to a new long term contract at St Mary’s Stadium.

The 25-year-old won both the fans’ and players’ Player of the Year award for the 2018/19 campaign following a significant improvement in his own personal form following the arrival of new Austrian gaffer Ralph Hasenhuttl and he wasn’t the only player to benefit from a change in the dugout.

With nine goals scored in the final six months of the year, we have now rewarded him with a new and improved long term contract which will run until the summer of 2023. To date, his overall record at the club shows 18 goals in 129 appearances and his performances have put him back on the fringes of Gareth Southgate’s England setup, so if he can continue his improvement this year there could be big things ahead for everyone.

Speaking to saintsfc as he penned his new deal, Redmond said.

“I’m really happy to have signed, and I’m just wanting to get the season up and going now. We’ve got a great group of players here, who I’ve been with for the last three years. I see them every single day and it’s a pleasure to go out there and perform with them at the weekend and train hard with them every single week. I feel like we can hopefully build something special and to be a part of it for the next four years is good for me.”

Onwards and upwards now…should we expect anyone else to sign a deal on deadline day?
