Manager Ronald Koeman has said he feels Southampton are perfectly ready to face Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Koeman has been in position for six weeks now and that time has been spent learning about them, building them up and signing new players, and ahead of his first competitive game in charge the manager is confident that we are very well prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

Speaking to saintsfc in his first ‘proper’ pre conference this season, he said.

‘It’s a great start for us to play away against Liverpool. We know it’s a tough one, but everybody starts on nil. Everybody has to show their qualities and ambitions and I believe we are very well prepared.’

Koeman goes on to say that not only does he know how to win at Anfield following his time as a player, but we know how to win well at Anfield as a club and with this game taking on an edge given their new arrivals, a commanding performance like last year would be the perfect tonic at full time.

With Liverpool obviously representing an element of our exodus of players this summer, Koeman also took the opportunity to praise the board and the club for their speed in identifying and securing targets as although he’s still looking to strengthen, he’s delighted with how the team is taking shape.
