Scoring in the derby is a sure-fire way to win the fans over, but Nathan Redmond is a player who didn’t need to prove anything to Southampton supporters.
A pleasure to play a part in the derby last night. Into the hat for the next round pic.twitter.com/GkTebOVGwB

The 25-year-old attacker put the nail in the coffin for Portsmouth last night as the electric winger scored the fourth and final goal against the Saints’ hated south coast rivals in a game that Southampton fans will remember for many years to come.
Introduced as a substitute in the second-half, Pompey simply couldn’t contain the former Norwich City winger, who’s well-worked effort from distance four minutes from time saw Redmond be the subject of plenty of praise on social media from Southampton fans.
Here is what some Saints supporters had to say the morning after the incredible 4-0 win for the Premier League side…
What a baller, please never leave Nathan, thanks

gone down in history Redders….will never be forgotten….I was there in 84 when Steve Moran scored and in 35 years time, they’ll be raving about your goal in the same way. Be proud.

The winger is likely to be fit to start against Tottenham next weekend in the Premier League, who they themselves head into Saturday on the back of a disappointing defeat to League Two side Colchester United.
