It doesn’t matter if you never do anything for the club ever again, but if you score in the mother of all derbies, then you will be remembered fondly by supporters, and that is seemingly going to be the case for Danny Ings.

The Southampton striker bagged a brace in the Saints’ 4-0 win over Portsmouth in the League Cup, and as if supporters didn’t have enough reason to love their new-found hero, Ings spoke highly of the fans who were there at Fratton Park on the night to back up the team.

As expected, Southampton fans on social media loved what Ings had to say about the community surrounding the club, and took to social media to praise the striker for his words and for his vital actions on Tuesday.

Of course, some fans took it a little bit too far…

Southampton next face Tottenham, who supporters will be hoping Ings will be able to continue his impressive form against.
