Who Are Southampton’s Most Valued Players?

We also have the incredible Gaston Ramirez who has begun to show the form which tempted us into buying him. Gaston can certainly pick out a pass and has the knack of picking up the odd goal which allied to his tackling ,makes him a very valuable asset.

Then we have the cool calm Jack Cork who was missed badly as we began our first season back in the Premier League. It can be no coincidence that his return to the starting eleven saw the team make a dramatic and almost instant recovery of form.

Of the rest of our players Morgan Schneiderlin has done well. Especially since Cork returned. Jason Puncheon has been a revelation this season after the previous histrionics he showed. Enough in fact for the majority of fans to forgive his wayward past with us. Steve Davis has sometimes looked solid but for me has disappointed to date.

At the back we have seen a remarkable improvement with the four main players being Nathaniel Clyne, Jose Fonte, Maya Yoshida and Luke Shaw.Clyne has generally done well, and as Yoshida got to grips with the English game we saw improvement from him and also Fonte.

I feel that Luke Shaw has also had a major influence on how we have improved at the back. For a 17yo trainee he has been immense. Suffice to say that he has claimed the left back spot as his property.

Then we have Guly do Prado who always gets a mixed reaction. The last two games have seen him play instead of Adam and he has done the job well. Jay Rodriguez has shaped with promise without yet setting us alight.

Jos Hooiveldt has been disappointing as has Danny Fox. Steve de Ridder has shown little as has Emanuel Mayuka though to be fair he is learning how to play our style of play and how to cope with our country and it’s game.None of our three goalkeepers has been able to stake a claim as our number one though Artur Boruc may be able to in the near future.

So who amongst our players can we least afford to play without?
Is it Sir Rickie for his goals and all round contribution?
Is it mercurial Adam Lallana who seems to knit our attack together with his twinkling runs and movement?
Could it be Gaston Ramirez who is beginning to find his feet in our game?

Or could it be my choice Jack Cork who has shown by his early season absence just how valuable he is to us? He doesn’t seem to do outstanding skillful things but he knits our midfield and defence in a way that protects the goal more than anybody else.
