Southampton boss Mark Wotte is pleased with Saints’ first round Carling Cup tie against Northampton Town.

However, the Dutchman will not underestimate the League Two outfit, as the Saints have been knocked out by lower league opposition in the past five years in the competition.

Former Southampton player Stuart Gray will be bringing the Cobblers to St. Mary’s on August 10 and is expected a good reception from the Southampton faithful.

Wotte shares his excitement regarding the competition: ‘It’s a nice fixture and I am happy to be playing Northampton Town,’ he told the official website.

‘It’s good to be able to welcome back someone with Southampton connections and it will be a good challenge that we can hopefully win.

‘I am also pleased to have a home tie so early in the season and I hope that we can draw a big crowd to show the players our fantastic support.

‘We have not done as well as we would have liked in the Carling Cup in recent seasons but this year it would be great to go on a good run. Stuart Gray and his team will be taking it seriously too though, so we will not underestimate them.’
