Saints’ Head Coach Mark Wotte was full of praise for Jason Euell after he scored twice and stole the show during Southampton’s emphatic 3-0 win over Ipswich at Portman Road.

“Jason Euell has done fantastically for us tonight. I am pleased with him. When I started this job I gave him a substitute role three times, and every time he had a good impact – so I put him in the first XI,” Wotte said.

Euell’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and any new deal is likely to be dependant on Southampton maintaining their Championship status.

What’s more, the club’s fiancial position shows no signs of improving, and with Euell amongst the high earners at the club, it is possible that the 32-year-old will be allowed to leave on a free at the end of the season.

Although Euell’s long-term future seems to be unclear, Wotte was still keen to compliment the Jamaican striker for his work ethic and professionalism.

“His contract is expiring, so he has personal reasons to play well,” Wotte continued. “He feels confident, like most of the players, and he has done brilliantly.”
