The international break can be a time for some forgotten players at club level to prove to their managers why they should be starting, and Stuart Armstrong managed just that for Scotland towards Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Southampton midfielder scored a sensational free-kick for Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army side during their 6-0 thrashing of San Marino, and the former Celtic star got Southampton fans talking as to why he should be starting ahead of James Ward-Prowse in the Saints starting XI.
Armstrong has been underused massively this season by Hasenhuttl, with numbers from Transfermarkt showing that the 27-year-old attacking midfielder has played just over an hour of first-team football, and after this wondergoal for Scotland, Southampton supporters on social media have called for the international hero to replace Ward-Prowse in the team.
Here’s what some Southampton fans had to say on Twitter about Armstrong’s stunning free-kick…
Stand down Prowsey, your time is up.

Replacing Ward-Prowse will be hard for Armstrong, though, as Hasenhuttl has played the Portsmouth-born in every game in all competitions so far this season as numbers from Transfermakrt show.
