Zoltan Hungary for success

After signing Hungary international Zoltan Liptak on transfer deadline day, Saints boss Mark Wotte has been impressed with what he has seen so far.

The 24-year-old was in the stands to see Saints slip to yet another home defeat, this time at the hands of Sheffield United, but despite this, Liptak is still as eager as ever to begin his Saints career.

Speaking to the official club website, Liptak said, “I am very pleased to be here at Southampton. It has been a dream of mine to play in The Championship and I hope that I can help Southampton to move away from the relegation zone.”

Liptak’s parent club, Ujpest FC, currently sit in second spot in the Hungarian top flight, and it was during a ‘behind-closed-doors’ friendly against Saints where Liptak caught the eye of the newly appointed Head Coach.

Despite making a good impression during training this week, Wotte is reluctant to throw him in at the deep end. Wotte told saintsfc.co.uk, “We got clearance on Thursday and we have two reserve matches next week, so I think it’s best for Zoltan to play a couple of games like that first to get used to the players and the system.”

Liptak knows what to expect from English football, after a short spell at Southend United during the 2007-08 season. However, Liptak also acknowledges the differences between the Hungarian and the English game. “The tempo over here is higher and some teams are physically stronger, but I am looking forward to getting involved.”

Saints fans will certainly be hoping that Liptak can help to improve their defensive record, having conceded 6 goals in their last 3 matches.
