Following the announcement of the return to Holland this summer, Southampton have also confirmed we will host Athletic Club at St Mary’s in a pre season friendly.
The Bilbao based La Liga side finished in fifth place last season in their top flight, and they last visited St Mary’s back in 2011, becoming winners of the inaugural Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup – overcoming Saints and Werder Bremen.
Their return sees them face us in our final warm up game ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season, and the match will take place on Sunday August 7 with a 3pm kick off.
The Premier League campaign kicks off on August 13.
