Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has predicted Liverpool’s Adam Lallana will return to Southampton.

The 32-year-old is surplus to requirements with this season’s Premier League champions and the likes of Leicester City and Brighton heavily linked with the former England international.

Lallana has only started three Premier League games this season as he has drastically fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, with manager Jurgen Klopp confirming that the Englishman will not feature again this season as he doesn’t want him to get injured.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills believes that there will be other clubs chasing Lallana, and one of which could be his former side Southampton.

“I think he’ll have plenty of choices”, he said. “He’s now back at full fitness – that’s really why he hasn’t played an awful lot.

“He could even go back to the likes of Southampton. There’ll be loads of clubs looking to sign him up on a one or maybe a two-year deal because he’s got quality.

“He knows how to keep the ball, he can create. It’s not long ago that he was in the England squad and playing for England, so he’s still there or thereabouts. He’ll have plenty of options.”

The St Mary’s faithful previously stated that they did not want him to return after leaving Southampton in 2014 on bad terms to move to Merseyside, which justifies the reactions from supporters.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent envisaged Lallana making the move back to the South Coast, with his contract at Anfield due to expire this summer.

Time will tell whether Ralph Hasenhuttl will throw his hand into the mix. If he does return, it will divide the fanbase’s opinion.
