Former Southampton chairman Leon Crouch has given an honest warning regarding the future of the club.

Crouch, 59, has warned supporters that the club they love could not make it to the end of the season.

In a personal statement on the official website, Crouch had this to say:

‘Saints’ long history is in serious danger of coming to an abrupt halt if we do not act quickly to help raise the money that is desperately needed to ensure the survival of the Club until a buyer can be found.’

‘We have found ourselves in the most perilous position imaginable, but the time has come for all of us to look beyond the short-term reasons for that failure and instead look at guaranteeing the Club’s long-term survival.’

Crouch has urged supporters to buy tickets for what is a huge game on Saturday against Burnley.

The club need all the money they can get, and a full house on Saturday will be a big step to getting the funds to see out the season.

However, on the pitch, Southampton find themselves in a tragic position too, sitting in 23rd place and four points of safety.

In the week, Saints boss Mark Wotte said ‘we need a miracle to stay up’ but the main priority is having a team to support next season.

  • Sorry Saints fans but I think Burnley this Saturday will be the club to finally put the nail in your relegation coffin.

We will want to seal that play-offs spot with a win at St Marys and I think we will be too strong for you.

What’s your view Saints fans? You can debate the match with Clarets fans over on Vital Burnley by going to our Matchday Mayhem forum

No hard feelings and I do hope you can sort out all your financial problems and can bounce straight back should you go down

  • Play up Burnley. Utterly frustrated that Barnsley failed to hold onto 3 pts last nite. Send this rubbish down.

  • Thanks guys. Finally, Burnely have a good season, well done, I have enjoyed watching you this year, especially in the cup. You are already in the play offs, so I don’t think you’ll turn up on Saturday, 3 – 1 Saints win, easy. COYR

  • Come on Saints. Burnley have secured the play-off’s and we are fighting for our lives! Let’s at least take it to the last day!

  • Really feel for you guys – 10 point deduction is harsh especially when there was an outside chance of safety. We still might be joining you in league 1 if we cant beat wolves on sat!
