Dexter Blackstock scored a last minute winner for Nottingham Forest to send shivers down the spines of Southampton fans with the thought of relegation deep in their minds.

The City Ground was sent rocking when Dexter Blackstock gave the home fans the vital three points, moving Forest four points above Norwich City in 22nd place.

Bristol City were 2-1 up with just seven minutes remaining, but late goals from Joel Garner and Dexter Blackstock ensured City’s play-off hopes were dented.

Elsewhere, Norwich dropped points at Swansea thanks to two goals from Jason Scotland, keeping the Welsh sides play-off hopes alive.

Barnsley were two minutes away from recording a vital win at Watford, but Tommy Smith scored for the Hornets to leave the Tykes still in the thick of the relegation battle.

With just four games left and the Saints being four points off safety, survival is not in the hands of the Hampshire club.

All the Saints can do is beat Crystal Palace on Easter Monday at St. Mary’s to keep the great escape alive.

Important Easter Monday fixtures:

Southampton vs Crystal Palace

Barnsley vs Swansea
