According to the player’s agent, Ramirez is ready to leave St. Mary’s in January should the opportunity arise.

Gaston arrived on the south coast from Bologna amid a flurry of expectation regarding the star’s credentials. Saints record signing (at the time) has, however, failed to deliver the impact that the club thought, for twelve million pounds, he would.

Injury woes and lack of first team football have perhaps hampered the attacker’s career and development. Though there is no denying his natural talent with a football, something hasn’t quite allowed Ramirez to settle in to the English league as hoped.

Having spent last season on loan at Hull City, who were relegated from the league, Ramirez return was again delayed by niggling injuries.

Saints’ manager Ronald Koeman has not expressed a deep wish for the Uruguayan striker to play a major part in his future plans. Gaston did find a place on the Saints bench for last month’s away trip to Anfield and once on, he looked sharp and set up multiple chances, including the goal that earned Saints a point.

This suggested that having worked hard in training to earn a first team slot, Ramirez could experience some what of a resurgence in the Premier League. Although, since then, he was only made one more appearance in a red and white shirt.

Pablo Betancour, representative of the player, has now hinted that an exit from St. Mary’s may be made come the January transfer window. Although Newcastle have had, for previous months, their eyes on him, it seems that a return to Bologna may be on the cards. Speaking in the Express he said:

‘He has suffered a few physical problems in England and he also had to give up to the national team and Copa America, He wants to come back to Italy. This is a thought and when we talk about Italy, we talk about Bologna.’

Ramirez will be out of contract come the summer so if he is not part of future plans and Saints are to make any money back on the player, January may prove the right time to sell.
