With the gloom that came after last night’s first team defeat, the youngsters have a great chance to lift it and bring the sun shining back on St Mary’s.

Dodd is currently preparing the Under 18 squad for the Forest match knowing that there will be a few disappointed faces once the starting eleven is nominated.

Having gone the last eight games with all being won, he says that the squad knows that he will rotate the players and all deserve a chance to play.

He said to Saints Player, ‘We’ve got 22 scholars and three are injured at the moment so there are 19 players that would all be disappointed if they don’t start.’

Having a strong squad of players has benefits but at the same time it brings headaches when team selections have to be made.

The squad was given permission to train for an hour on the hallowed St Mary’s turf which they thoroughly enjoyed. Though they played their for the last game in the tournament beating Sheffield United 7-0. This was another chance to feel the atmosphere of the stadium.

The Forest side are a good side with a strong defence and good attackers and will be a stern test for the Saints youngsters. Whatever the outcome I sense a feeling of keen anticipation for the match.

Dodd has a good squad and hopefully it will be seen as such by producing a stirring power packed display of open attacking football that can bring us a win.
