At Southampton’s recent Awards Dinner, James Ward-Prowse walked away with the Scholar Award in recognition of his on pitch and off pitch efforts this season.

Speaking to saintsfc James said of his season.

‘It’s been a year for me where I’ve grown in stature and I’ve felt as though I’ve matured in every single way. To beat off the likes of Dom who has had a great season as captain of the U18s, and Lukey who’s been an inspiration this year is great.’

James admits that it’s difficult to remain motivated for the educational efforts that Southampton requires youngsters to go through because obviously the focus for a youngster is in improving their individual skills and playing the games, but he appreciates why the club put such an emphasis on education and he hopes that he can be an example for other players coming through the levels and be somebody they look to to see what can be achieved.

James has also been called into the provisional England U20 squad for their upcoming 2013 World Cup. He joins the provisional 35 for a four day training camp, following that the team will be trimmed to 21 players for the tournament.
