The club captain and goalkeeper was on the bench when Saints fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Chelsea. Wednesday night’s game was played against a backdrop of animosity towards Blues` boss Rafael Benitez.

Rafa took over in similar circumstances to that of our new manager Mauricio Pochettino. Both men taking over from popular figures that had suddenly been removed from office.

Last week we saw how the Chelsea fans are still reacting to Rafa and to be honest it didn’t help the Chelsea team once Saints began to make a game of it in the second half.

Kelvin Davis has been reported as asking for Saints fans not to go down the same road. He said,. ‘ Fans need to put the club first.I can understand Southampton fans` frustrations after what Nigel did in the time he was here. He did an outstanding job. I was part of a lot of that success myself.’

He went on to say that the club has come a long way in the last three years, and that the club has not made many mistakes. As fans he added, we have to trust the club.

I endorse these feelings and feel that our game tonight will be tough enough without making it any tougher.
