Speaking to saintsfc the gaffer firstly gave an update on goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who he says could return to the starting line up having miss the two all draw with Leicester having picked up a back problem.

‘He`s looking good. He did Thursday, on a day off, a session with Dave Watson. He was training normally on Friday and he`s fit for the weekend.’

With Cedric coming off with an eye injury against the Foxes as well, Koeman confirmed he’d be available for selection if called upon, but striker Jay Rodriguez had been struggling this week.

‘It`s not looking good (Cédric`s eye), because it`s still all the colours you can get on your eye, but he can train normally and that`s no problem. We still have the same injuries what we had last week, with Shane Long. Jay is a little bit struggling with his foot at the moment and we have to wait for the weekend. We had some players with some physical problems, but it looks like most of them are available for the weekend.’

As for Liverpool and their new manger Jurgen Klopp, Koeman said that his arrival at Anfield would have no effect on our preparations or how we approached the game this weekend.

‘Managers don`t win and managers don`t lose, it`s the players between the white lines who make decisions and put the quality in. I think it`s too much talking about managers. Talk about the teams, because they are more important. I didn`t really see a different Liverpool on Thursday. Yes, in the first 20 or 25 minutes against Tottenham they did more high pressing than they used to under Brendan Rodgers. Thursday it was a difficult game for them. It wasn`t good. We know they have a strong team and they play at home. It`s difficult to beat them.’
