My Xmas Wishes For Santa

As a complete football fanatic though, this year, my wishes are predominantly related to our favourite sport.

My first wish is for Steve Kean. Steve has had to endure some of the worst abuse that any football manager has had to suffer. It has been relentless and must seriously undermine anything that he tries to do. Even worse is the fact that his family has to bear the brunt alongside him.

My wish for Steve is for Venky’s to put him out of his misery once and for all. Either give him the boot or buy a couple of players to bail him out. Perhaps they might even appear at a game.

My second wish goes in Pompey’s direction. As a Saints fan I have shuddered with disbelief at the goings on at our closest rivals, Pompey. They have had numerous owners in recent times but none ever seem to be able to pay their way. The fans must be in turmoil wondering whether they will ever see the end of their woes.

I would love to see them find someone who can stabilise the club and maybe even improve their ground and team. I can’t bear the thought of not being able, as a ‘Scummer’, to bait our ‘Skate’ friends. Banter is more enjoyable when it comes back and forth from your closest rivals.

So please will you find someone who can help put their club on an even keel, and let us keep our rivalry going for the foreseeable future.

Thirdly I would ask for the available technology to be made available, so that all senior football games can be played with there being less reason to argue over stupid refereeing mistakes. Refs have a thankless task but are in the main, helped very little by the assistants running the lines. Please let us have full use of this wonderful technical data.

Next I would like to see the transfer windows done away with. For me they are a bloody waste of time and appear to raise the price of players. Let us return to the old way of doing things. I am unable to see a satisfactory argument for the use of the windows and feel many smaller clubs would much prefer the earlier way.

I would also like to see a much fairer distribution of the wealth that is brought in from television and media coverage. The gap between the top dogs and the lower ones is growing by the year. If we don’t look after the grass roots then the grass will die as surely as I will if starved. This I wish even though we have a chance of joining the fat cats at the top.

For my family I would like to receive a Hospitality Box so that we can all enjoy the games in comfort. It will be much nicer to be able to see the whole of the pitch from on high, with a quality meal, and drinks, to round it all off.

As for the Saints, perhaps we could see the points from our next three games come to us. By then the festive period will be over and the transfer window will have opened. This may upset Palace, Bristol City and Brighton fans but they don’t count anyway, do they?

All in all not a great amount for myself, but plenty that would improve our game. So Santa if you feel able to help with these wishes, I would, along with many others, be truly thankful.
