Saints manager George Burley has confirmed that midfield player Matthew Oakley will leave the club after he decided against signing the offer of a new one year deal with Saints.

The news will come as a disappointment for many Saints fans. Oakley clearly has the potential to be an excellent player at Championship level and was an instrumental part of the team that reached the F.A Cup Final in the 2003/2004 season.

George Burley told the Saints official website:-

‘He (Oakley) called me this morning and said he has decided not to sign.’

Saints have revealed that they hope to bring in a new striker in the not so distant future after agreeing a fee with a Premiership club. The front man is rumoured to be Tottenham youngster Mark Yeates, who was on loan at Colchester last season, after newspaper reports linked him with a move to St Marys.
