Mauricio Pochettino has spoken briefly about his welcome, Nigel Adkins, and now he says he just wants to focus on taking the club forward.

Speaking to the Independent following the draw against Everton, our new gaffer said.

‘I’ve been offered a job, an opportunity, and I’ve taken it. I’m happy the fans have greeted me, and how the players have greeted me, and I just want to focus on my work. That’s what I’m here to do. I have the maximum respect for the previous manager. It’s never nice to take over from another manager who’s been let go, but that’s just how it’s been.’

Poch was obviously also asked about the fans’ chants for Adkins, and he added.

‘That’s freedom of speech. It’s normal that they do that thing after a couple of seasons of him being in charge. I credit the previous manager for the work he did here, but now I really want to focus on my tenure here and the future of the club here under me, and the goals we’ve set out to achieve.’

Very fair and appropriate comments from the new man there really. Rightful acknowledgement of what Nigel did here, but also very rightful that it’s his job now and that should be where the focus stays.

Just a shame this has been tainted by the otherwise lack of acknowledgement in the programme which has seen Le Tiss and Benali hit the headlines again today.
