Jan Poortvliet has stepped down as Southampton manager following the sides` poor home form this season.

The Saints have only won once at St. Mary’s this season, a 2-0 victory against Norwich way back in September.

Poortvliet, 53, took over from Nigel Pearson at beginning of the season, and the Dutchman has failed to settle in on the south coast.

Following last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Doncaster Rovers, the Saints are stranded in 23rd place and face a crucial away game at Norwich on Tuesday night.

Academy director Mark Wotte has taken the post, and will be in charge of the match at Norwich.
