In reply Southampton have told BBC Solent they will deal internally with the midfielder who has remained very much on the sidelines since returning from an unsuccessful spell at QPR.

The player has been training with the youth team since his return and has now come out on Twitter attacking the chairman.

He has said on it, ‘I’m not going anywhere, gonna sit and train with the kids for 18 months, see how Cortese likes that, then go on a free. The only reason I train with the kids is because of Nicola, not the manager.’

This seems a bit far fetched as it is a known fact that any one player is permitted to play for only two clubs in a single year. If Saints were to use him then he would not be available for any other team this season although they could still buy him.

With Saints asking a price of £1m for the player his agent has said that we are asking too much for a player that we no longer want. He also said that Blackpool offered a reasonable price which we turned down.

Nigel Adkins has said that any club can come in and bid for Puncheon as he is up for sale. He admitted that it was unlikely at this time that the player would play for the club again. He also stressed that the two clubs per season playing rule was the reason as we would then be unable to sell the player.

Surely the best way forward would be for the player to keep his mouth shut and knuckle down. Other clubs could be seriously concerned by the torrent of childish rhetoric being posted on the web-site by the player.

You don’t want to play for the club again, so get your head down and train as hard as you can just in case somebody is still prepared to offer a chance to you of escaping to what you think will be a greener land.
