Rasiak to remain a Hornet?

Watford boss Brendan Rodgers has spoken of his desire to keep on loan Southampton striker Grzegorz Rasiak at Vicarage Road on a permanent basis.

It was thought that the Polish international would not remain in Hertfordshire after his season-long loan due to a number of factors counting against the striker.

The Hornets’ current financial position means that they will struggle to afford Rasiak’s high wages next season, but also that the fee agreed with Southampton last year, believed to be around £750,000, would also be too excessive.

However, assuming Watford avoid relegation and the Saints are relegated, there is a chance that the south coast club would be willing to agree a reduced deal for the 6ft 3in forward in order to get him off the wage bill and bring in some much needed funds.

Speaking to the Watford Observer, Rodgers confirmed that if the two clubs could reach an agreement, the 30-year-old would be a welcome addition to his squad.

“He is someone that I have grown to like. He is a good guy and a good professional.

“I am open minded and I have an idea of how I want to play and maybe at the beginning he didn’t feature but everyone has seen his contribution.

“He is a very good professional and has big qualities for this division and he is someone I would like to stay.

“I have had a chat with him about that and I would like him to stay but we have to look at it as a club.

“The club will do what they can do if the player wants to stay.”
