The Saints welcome Steve Coppell’s men this afternoon to St. Mary’s. Reading sit in 2nd place and they need a win to keep the pressure on leaders Wolves.

Saints, on the other hand need a win to stay out of the relegation zone following Doncaster’s win over Forest on Boxing Day – the Saints are now just one point above Donny and Forest.

Donny are at home to Burnley and Forest are away to Norwich. Baring in mind of Southampton’s dire goal difference a point for either Donny or Forest could see the Saints in the relegation zone tonight.

This makes the clash with Reading a must win – however considering the Saints have the worst home record in the league, it seems an unlikely outcome.

The Royal’s will be seeking revenge following the surprising Saints victory at the Madejski this season. Southampton’s 2-1 win over the Royal’s was Reading’s first and only home defeat of the season.

SAINTS TEAM NEWS: Young starlet Adam Lallana did not feature on Friday and will be assessed by Poortvliet following an ankle injury picked up in training.

French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin remains out with a hamstring injury and defender Alex Pearce is not eligible to face his parent club, Reading.

Chris Perry and Bradley Wright-Phillips may feature today after being rested two days ago at Plymouth.

READING TEAM NEWS: Keeper Marcus Hahnemann remains out but late goal scorrer Adam Federici will keep goal for the Royal’s today.

Jimmy Kebe, Marek Matejovsky and Brynjar Gunnarsson look to start for Coppell as his re-shuffles the pack.
