He left fellow League One team Bristol Rovers for a fee that was in excess of £1million.

The 6’3′ Liverpudlian frontman finished as joint leading scorer in English League Soccer last season. He scored 29 league goals for Bristol Rovers in the league campaign alone.

The striker began his career at Blackpool. He had spells at Macclesfield Town and Stockport County before making his mark at Rochdale. Whilst there he scored 28 goals in 64 games.

From Rochdale he moved to Bristol Rovers in August 2006. At the Memorial Stadium he notched 59 goals in 139 games. He left Rovers after a game this season to join Saints.

The signing of Rickie was the very first purchase made by Alan Pardew and Markus Liebherr. They had to fight off strong competition from clubs at a higher level to secure his signature.

Rickie started in a game the day after he signed and scored in a 2-0 win over Northampton. A perfect start to what we hope will be a long and fruitful career at Saints.

Hopefully this is a match made in heaven.
