Gaffer George Burley believes the signing of Marek Saganowski could be key in the Saints bid for promotion next season.

Saganowski is Burley’s first signing of the season, while Bale and Cranie have left for Premiership duo Tottenham and Portsmouth.

Burley told the official site: ‘Marek did very well for us at the end of the season and was the key player for me to get signed up.’

‘Marek is a tremendous acquisition and we go into pre-season with a lot of optimism. there will be other changes but Marek is very important.’
