Saganowski pleased with fellow strikers

Polish international Marek Saganowski has praised his fellow strikers after Southampton’s convincing 3-0 win at Portman Road last night.

Although the Pole failed to get his own name on the scoresheet, the 30-year-old was delighted with Jason Euell’s performance.

“Jason is great for our team and it was a pleasure to see him score today because he has worked very hard for the team in the last two games.

“When he goes up for the ball you always know that you’ve got a great chance of getting the flicks and the knock downs.”

The pair have formed a formidable partnership over recent weeks, and Saganowski recognises the trouble they can cause opposing defences.

“Having him up there alongside me means that we can play the ball more into our feet, we played very well this way and Ipswich didn’t handle it.”

Substitute Matthew Paterson completed the rout with his 88th minute strike to make it 3-0, sealing a vital win for the Saints in the process. Saganowski praised the young striker after netting his first senior goal for Southampton.

“Everybody wants to show the gaffer that he can play his part on the pitch and I think that Paterson did a good job today.”

Next up for the Saints is a tricky trip to Birmingham, who play Bristol City tonight at St Andrews as they look to re-gain second spot.

Saganowski is well aware that Saints have their work cut out if they are to make it four wins in a row, but the Pole is fully focused on the task ahead.

“We look forward to Birmingham now and our minds will be focused again on what will be another important game.”

A win at St Andrews could result in Southampton moving out of the bottom three for the first time since December, providing other results go their way.
