Well, I never realised that two weeks was such a long time in football, especially for the Saints. Upon checking the Saints website on my return I was pleasantly surprised to see a wave of transfer activity surrounding St Marys.

First to sign was Kelvin Davis, an accomplished stopper at Ipswich but came under fire at Sunderland in recent times. He comes as a welcome addition to the squad with the injury to Bartosz Bialkowski and the floundering form of veteran Kevin Miller.

Next came young Brazilian Pele, a young portugese defender who obviously has bags of potential. He will provide some much needed cover for the injured Michael Svensson.

The much anticipated signing of controversial Hearts winger Rudi Skacel will no doubt excite most fans, including myself. He will provide some much needed flair and creativity in a midfield which has lacked ideas in pre season.

The two latest signings of midfielders Licka and Viafara come as a surprise and I must admit I know little about the qualities of both players but I will endeavour to find out more.

With the squad now looking very much complete it is now that we can look ahead to the new season with a renewed sense of optimism. Saints now look to have a squad with both strength and depth and have players who possess the qualities to get them out of the division.

The league is also looking stronger than ever with Birmingham adding to their already strong squad and West Brom seemingly able to keep hold of their prize assets. In order to gain promotion Saints will need to score a greater number of goals and drastically improve their away form which was abysmal last term.

The beginning of the season on Sunday cannot come soon enough and I am sure that all Saints fans will share the same sense of expectation and excitement about the coming season.
