When Claus Lundekvam crashed to the ground following an aerial challenge with Derby youngster Giles Barnes most of us feared the worst. Especially after it was revealed that Claus had his ankle in a splint.

Now it seems as though Lundekvam’s injury is not as bad as it was first thought. Scans at Derby’s Royal Infirmary revealed that there was no major damage to his ankle. There was also some concern to the extent of Lundekvam’s head injury. Saints physio Andy Barr revealed that Lundekvam was ‘barely conscious’ after he departed.

It now seems that a return to action for the Saints captain may not be too far away, although he looks set to miss the Wednesday night clash with Coventry City he may have recovered in time to play some part against West Bromwich Albion.

Ricardo Fuller’s hamstring injury is also not as bad as first thought although he looks certain to miss the next two home games.
