Southampton had to fight back from 1-0 down to move into League One’s top six and a point off third-placed Huddersfield.

Lee Novak had put the Terriers in front when heading home a Gary Roberts’ cross before Rickie Lambert equalised when his shot slipped past keeper Alex Smithies.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then slotted homeafter a great pass from Guly put him in and he cooly scored to put Saints ahead before the break.

Saints went close before the ref called a halt to the first half but the break didn’t stop the Red and white machine when play resumed.

Radhi Jaidi then nodded in Adam Lallana’s free-kick to make the game look safe at 3-1. Richard Chaplow finished the scoring when firing home left footed to complete the impressive comeback.

Even better was the fact that Southampton also capitalised on League One rivals Bournemouth and Peterborough both dropping points.

This great victory and the other results has now propelled us into the play-off places, and we now sit 5th which is the best position we have been in since dropping to this league.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Solent:
‘It was a good victory for everybody, a great atmosphere to be in and the statement is out there – we want to do well and keep building on what we’ve done.

‘Our intention is to win the division, it’s as simple as that.

‘(on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has been linked with Liverpool) We’re not looking to let him go, he’s only 17. He is a special talent, he’s come through the system and what we’re trying to do is build here.’

This is also great news if the player himself wants to stay as we all what will happen if he doesn’t.

Bring on Exeter and let’s see if we can repeat this performance whilst hopefully being a little tighter at the back.
