Saints could be forced into bringing in a new goalkeeper on loan, to cover for the injured Bartosz Bialkowski.

The exceptional young Pole sustained medial ligament damage when he fell awkwardly in the FA Cup defeat against Newcastle.

He will now see a specialist to determine whether he needs surgery, if he does it could rule him out for the rest of the campaign.

George Burley told the official site:’It looks as though Bart will be out for a number of weeks so we will probably have to get someone in on loan.

‘He’s had a scan which shows damage to the ligaments and the specialist will decide if he requires surgery.’

The only other experienced keeper at the club is Paul Smith, who is currently out of training with a sore elbow.

If Smith is unfit to play against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday then currently Saints only have cup hero Dexter Blackstock as back up!
