Shaw Looking Forward To Chelsea Encounter

Luke Shaw was rejected by Chelsea as a youngster and he’s mature enough to know he’s got far better potential at Southampton because we have the trust in him to play.

Obviously the 17 year old will have a point to prove to the club he supported, especially with all the speculation that has gone on this season about their interest in him following his development with us, but rather than looking at pound signs or a big money move, Shaw is grateful for the faith Saints have put in him.

Speaking to saintsfc ahead of the game, the left back said.

‘I feel the luckiest young man in the world being able to play Premier League football at just 17 years of age. Just a year ago I was playing for the U18 side here, and to be honest I only expected to be training with the senior squad this year. To be playing regularly is beyond my wildest dreams. If I had gone to Chelsea all those years ago, I still would have been kicking my heels waiting for a chance to play. There’s no doubt in my mind where I want to be right now, where I will get my best chance to blossom as a player, and that is here at Southampton.’

A pleasure to read if I do say so myself. The fame, and riches will undoutedly come for Luke in the future if he continues to develop and grow the way he has done this season when given the chance, and it far more suits his development to be playing regularly and learning on the pitch and not sitting in an U21 side given what he has shown he can do in the league.
