Surman – ‘It meant a lot because I have always supported the Saints’

Saints youngster Andrew Surman scored a fantastic hat trick as Southampton saw of struggling Barnsley 5-2 at St Mary`s last Saturday.
Drew is a life long Saint`s fan and is yet another example of Southampton`s fantastic youth system. On Saturday Drew fulfilled a life long dream by getting his hat trick.

Speaking to the Saints official web site here is what he has had to say about it:

“It meant a lot because I have always supported the Saints. I grew up watching them from the Itchen stand with my girlfriend Laura my brother Paul and Cousin Joanne and it will have meant a lot to them to.

My first aim as a player was just to sign professional for Southampton and then to make it to the first team, next was to get my first goal and now it is to help them get back to the premiership and hopefully this will help.

It was a great win for us and it is an amazing feeling to walking away with the match ball”

This was the first hat trick at St Mary`s since James Beattie netted three against Fulham back in the 2002/2003 season and the 5-2 final score line meant that it is in fact the first time five goals have been scored in a league game at the stadium.
