Barnsley midfielder Brian Howard literally handed Andrew Surman his hat-trick in Southampton’s 5-2 over Barnsley.

But the former Saint, was happy to see Surman get his hat-trick although he would have preferred for it to have happened against someone else.

He told the the official site: ‘I remember Drew from my time with Southampton. He is a good lad and he was always a talented player.

It was good for him to score a hat-trick although I wish it had not been against us.

‘I have no complaints about the penalty. I did not expect him to flick it up and I tried to turn and the ball hit my arm.

Funnily enough, we were talking before the game about own goals and conceding penalties and I said I had never done either.’
