After Southampton`s 6-0 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, Andrew Surman recorded the highest individual points total out of any midfielder in this week`s Actim Index – the Official Player Ratings of the Coca-Cola Championship.

The 20-year-old, who recorded 41 Index points, capped an overall impressive display by creating a goal and scoring his fourth of the season. Actim Stats reveal that he has also contributed 35 shots, 48 tackles, three clearances, 13 interceptions, three blocks, 13 dribbles and 34 crosses this campaign.

Saints` hat-trick hero Marek Saganowski (63 points) was also the second highest scorer in the Index this week, behind Hull City`s Dean Windass (68 points) – who also hit three goals against Southend United.

Chirs Baird is currently Southampton`s highest-ranked player in the Actim Index in 12th position on 512 Index points – 6 points ahead of Gareth Bale in 14th position overall. However, the Northern Ireland defender has been on the pitch 501 minutes longer than Bale this season.

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player`s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards. Two additional calculations, which take account of player assists and goalkeeper`s clean sheets, have been added for the new season to increase the amount of variables a player is now measured by.

Analysis of all Championship games is taking place throughout the season and so far the top five Southampton players are:

Chris Baird (2nd Highest Ranked Defender)

Gareth Bale (3rd Highest Ranked Defender)

Grzegorz Rasiak (12th Highest Ranked Striker)

Kelvin Davis (7th Highest Ranked Goalkeeper)

Jermaine Wright (16th Highest Ranked Midfielder)
