Southampton skipper Michael Svensson is once again on the injury list. The Swede was almost ready to come back following a recurring knee injury. Svensson started for the reserves on Wednesday night against Queens Park Rangers, but had to be withdrawn after only 11 minutes due to an Achilles injury.

‘At least it takes my mind off the knee,’ Svensson told saintsfc.co.uk. ‘It could have been a lot worse but it’s frustrating when the rehab for my knee was going so well.’

The 33 year old was thought to feature against Reading last Saturday, but had to be withdrawn due to illness. Svensson was involved in the reserves game to get minutes under his belt and to prepare himself for the Championship clash with Charlton this Saturday.

Svensson will have to wait once again to regain fitness in order to start for the first team. Southampton fans will hope that their commanding captain will have a sure and steady road to recovery.

On the plus side, the rehab on his knee has been working: ‘The knee is fine, that`s the main thing. My Achilles problem has been ongoing throughout the season, but I’ve just handled it. It’s on the opposite leg and during the warm-up I could feel it, but then it felt better.”

Suffering the tragic knee injury, ‘Killer` has overcome a mountain to be in this position. Following yet another setback, the defender reveals his frustration: ‘I will wait and see now what the specialist says, but at the moment I’m just frustrated about it and a little annoyed.’
