Uncharacteristically Generous – Pochettino

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has summed up the performance and result against Spurs today by saying that our generosity in the game more than helped the opposition.

Speaking to saintsfc following the three two loss, Pochettino was angry with the squad for throwing away the early lead and was adamant that we gave Spurs an early Christmas present given the way we played.

‘I think – in the second half in particular – we got dressed up as Santa Claus and gifted them with many chances. Over the 90 minutes there were different phases to the game, some positive, some not so’

Pochettino goes on to say that we were in charge of the game at 1-0 and really should’ve added a second to the scoreline, but we ‘practically gifted them the 1-1,’ saying we made a lot of mistakes and in this league you will get punished for that, and we were.

Most disappointing for the gaffer was that we controlled the game again early on in the second half but after conceding the second we just weren’t really in the game again and although it wasn’t so much that our heads dropped, we just didn’t put in the effort or make the right decisions from there onwards.

So he knows we need to see a reaction in the next game, but that will come from performing to the levels we know we are capable of and maintaining them, because he knows the players still believe in what we are doing but today we just didn’t perform how we should’ve.
