A national newspaper has speculated that Michael Wilde could step down as Chairman of Southampton FC.

The Telegraph has reported that Wilde has given up his search for new investment and the task has been handed over to Chief executive Jim Hone and Southampton Leisure Holdings chairman Ken Dulieu.

If the pair find a new buyer for the club, Wilde will either step down as Chairman or sell his stake in the Saints.

The article finishes with the reporter speculating that unless a new investor is found or promotion is secured then the future sale of Gareth Bale would be the only option to keep Southampton afloat.
