Another Mauricio Leaves Southampton

Southampton a short time ago officially confirmed the departure of Mauricio Pellegrino and his members of the backroom staff at St Mary’s Stadium.

With Southampton only having won one of our last 17 league matches, his sacking doesn’t really come as a surprise to anybody as sadly it didn’t work out for the Argentine with us and many wondered if the three nil defeat at Newcastle United would be the final straw for the board.

He departs with us one point above the dropzone in 17th place in the Premier League table and with only five wins all season and a minus 15 goal difference…well it was on the cards.

An emailed press release by the club at approximately 8.50pm read.

‘Southampton Football Club can today confirm that it has parted company with First Team Manager Mauricio Pellegrino. Assistant Manager Carlos Compagnucci and Assistant First Team Coach Xavier Tamarit have also parted company with the club.’

The statement went on to say that the club wanted to thank all three for ‘their efforts’ during their time with us and they were wished ‘well’ for the future.

Obviously the club confirms it is now seeking a new management team but you’d hardly think at this stage of the season the decision to part company isn’t tallied with a favoured appointment already potentially on the cards.

Eight league games to secure our future and an FA Cup distraction with Wigan Athletic this weekend – the appointment needs to be right and soon.
