George Burley has today insisted that the club is in the market for new players but says that any potential signings will not happen overnight and that fans may have to wait before seeing any new faces at St Marys.

Burley says that he is targeting around 5 new signings, these would be very welcome at Saints as the squad is looking a little bit thin on the ground.

Burley has just returned to Southampton after taking a short break, he says that many other league managers will be doing the same as him and has highlighted that this is why it is so difficult to sign players.

He told local Southampton Sports Paper The Pink:-

‘A lot of people – managers, players, agents – go away whilst the managers that are looking around are generally looking at their squad.’

Despite this admission Burley remained up beat for next season and was quick to assure fans that Saints were still in the market for new players despite the distractions of the well publicised off field trouble surrounding the club.

He told The Pink:-

‘These are things in process but it’s hard to see much happening until the beginning of July.’

‘We have got offers in on players.’

This statement from Burley will no doubt encourage fans and will hopefully help to remind fans that it is what happens on the pitch that counts.
