Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Calum Davenport could soon become a Southampton player.

Davenport spent time at St Mary’s during the 2004/05 season when then manager Harry Redknapp signed him on loan.

And although Spurs are asking in the region of £1.5 million for the former Coventry City captain Saints manager George Burley is interested in the England Under-21 international.

Davenport signed for Spurs from Coventry in August 2004 but he has failed to cement a place in Martin Jol’s matchday squad.

However Saints are facing competiton for Davenport’s signature from Premiership new boys Watford and bitter South Coast rivals Portsmouth.
