Andrew Surman is arguably one of Saints’ brightest young talents. He broke into the first team during a period of transition following an early loan spell at Saints’ south coast neighbours Bournemouth.
He is optimistic that saints can push for the premiership and hopes that he can help to fire his team to promotion with his goals from midfield. He told local newspaper the pink: ‘Goals wise I’m going to set myself a target of 15 if I play the whole season.’ Surman has already notched up two goals for the saints first team away at Plymouth and on the last day of the season against Leicester.

Surman also has an encouraging view about promotion prospects next season but he knows that it will not be easy with the Championship looking stronger than ever following the relegation of midlands pair Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion. He says that the resurgent saints must get off to a good start. ‘We need to get as many points as we can early doors otherwise we will end up chasing the pack.
