Deflated Is An Understatement

Adam Lallana has said it’s difficult to explain just how low and devastated the dressing room felt after the embarrassing second half against West Ham.

Speaking to saintsfc after the capitulation, Lallana said.

‘Deflated is an understatement. We’ve come out for the second half feeling really good about ourselves and thinking that we had a really good first half. We’d kept them to limited chances and played well without creating a lot, but not not have conceded at half time away from home is something you’d take with the position we’re in. So, to be two goals down within three minutes at any level is unacceptable. We killed ourselves, really.’

Despite the disappointment currently felt though, Lallana believes that if we keep putting the work and effort in on the training pitch, we will turn this around.

‘We need to turn it around sooner rather than later. We’re confident we can do that because we’re a good team and we can play good football. We’ve got to be tougher – physcially and mentally – and find a way to stop the goals. We might look some way off it at the minute, but I don’t think we are.’

There are certainly a few splits appearing in the fanbase when you look at opinions, because the frustrating thing is it’s the same old errors that we keep seeing and the same old mistakes that are costing us.

There are plenty of games still to go, but maybe we need to look at a formation change so we have more in defence to help cover these slip ups – get a few more points on the board even if we slightly compromise the principles Adkins talks about, just to boost confidence across the board?
