Does Burley Have an Achilles Heel?

We the fans anticipated the start of this season much more optimistically than we have for a long time. A new Board and Chairman, the restructuring of the business and Club infrastructure and most important of all the George Burley factor and a fresh new squad.

January 2007 has been ushered in and a review wouldn’t go amiss.

My own perspective is that there is an enormous potential and this squad is capable of not just promotion but a championship winning side.

So far the results haven’t quite justified the hopes and aspirations we all held in August 2006.

This squad is entirely Burley’s but somehow it doesn’t seem to have quite delivered as hoped. There have been strong suggestions of favouritism( A big black mark in my book) Odd team selections(My opinion) and most puzzling of all in important games a when a substitution would probably sway the game they are not made (Watson and Case opinions).

More worryingly for me is the allegation from ‘kirkyboy’ an Ipswich fan posting on theuglyinside Board that ‘Burley lost his nerve during Ipswich’s playoffs.

Finally I have to compare Claus’s commitment to the cause with that of Idiakez.

Particularly when we desperately need a player who can break down teams like Burnley.

We have three such players Belmadi whose fragility is well known. Idiakez whose motivation is suspect(My opinion) and Sarmiento who though not disgracing himself when given his chance. Has had little opportunity to demonstrate his abilities over an extended period. As has Wright and Makin.

Am I adding 2+2=5?
