Former U18 Golden Boot Winner Linked With St Mary’s Switch

|

With thoughts more turning to the summer transfer window now Southampton have secured their Premier League future for the 2019/20 campaign, we can all expect the rumour mill to really begin ramping up the speculation now – but this one is quite interesting and involves Chelsea.

It’s been reported this week by the Mirror that soon to be out of contract Chelsea youngster Martell Taylor-Crossdale is in the crosshairs of Southampton, Aston Villa, Fulham and Bristol City.

The 19-year-old striker has a good season for in the underage ranks of the Stamford Bridge outfit and he has some pedigree. He won the Premier League Under 18 Golden Boot award back in 2015/16 and he played a key role for England in 2017’s Toulon Tournament victory but expectedly at Chelsea, he hasn’t made the breakthrough you’d expect.

In 2018/19 he’s chipped in with 35 goals in 52 matches at Under 18 level this year, added to seven in 29 when asked to step up to Under 23 level. Now fair’s fair, that information from the interweb and I fail to see how he’s played 52 games at Academy level, so I’m assuming something has got lost in translation.

But he certainly seems to know where the goal is and would fit with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s youth approach.
