Former Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini might not have had the greatest of times at St Mary’s Stadium when it came to his overall goal return, but the diminutive Italian was certainly taken into the hearts of fans.

Having arrived from Napoli for a reported £14.6million back in the January 2017 window, the 27-year-old achieved almost cult-like status for some in the fanbase and although the goals dried up, he did score 12 times for us in 29 starts and 31 substitute showings and plenty thought his January 2019 sale to Sampdoria could be a mistake.

In Ralph We Trust though.

Gabbiadini recently sat down with Ita Sport Press for a wide ranging interview, and the topic of Southampton came up and I think fans will be delighted with his words really, although for some the phrase ‘lifestyle choice’ may carry a meaning I’m not sure is implied.

“It was a lifestyle choice. I moved with my family. New football, new city, new culture. It was another important step in my career. Arriving and, after a month, playing a final, at Wembley, against Mourinho’s United was incredible. I also scored a double; too bad I didn’t win it. But it was beautiful. I see the two goals once in a while on my smartphone.”

Most fans will remember those two goals fondly I’m sure.
