Radhi Jaidi will take up an overseas development role with the club on July 1st to help build our links in Africa.

After announcing his retirement from his 19 year long career the 36 year old, the defender will now work with the Executive Director of the Club’s Football Development and Support Centre, Les Reed, in improving our standing overseas.

Speaking to saintsfc Reed said of the appointment.

‘Radhi is a legend, both here and in his native Tunisia, and we are very lycky to have someone like that who can help us get off the blocks. We are really looking forward to Radhi working in the backroom.’

Reed adds that this wasn’t a reaction to his retirement, it was something they had thought about 3 years ago when making steps to establish Southampton again.

‘One of our ambitions is to set up academies overseas so essentially we will always be looking to identify talent. We also want to take Saints abroad with us. We’ve identified some places in the world we’d like to go and one of them is Africa.’

Jaidi himself added on the appointment.

‘I can help the club to find the talent from all around the world. We just need to show them the way and I think the ‘Southampton Way’ is one of the best in the Premier League. It’s kind of giving back to my country as well as to Southampton, it’s a really good thing to do.’
