With speculation rife about the future of Mauricio Pochettino and the endless links to Tottenham Hotspur in particular of late, midfielder James Ward-Prowse has said that he desperately hopes the gaffer remains in position for next season, because he knows that’s what all the players want.

JWP has his own reasons obviously for wanting Poch to remain given his own progress in the first team at the age of 19, and his subsequent England recognition at U21 level and speaking to Sky Sports he was asked the question about the gaffer, and he said.

‘There has been a lot of talk about that. It would be a major blow to lose him, all the players love him. He has played me out of position on the right, so I’ve had to adapt. I’ve had to work on my game going forward – an area I needed to improve. Having done that, he has added another string to my bow. I feel I can now play in a number of different positions, but he has not only helped me technically, he’s helped me physically. None of us want to see him go, he’s a fantastic manager and he has done really well.’

Of Course Ward-Prowse is currently on international duty with the England U21’s at the Toulon Tournament, and having beaten Qatar in the opening game, they now face Brazil – today.

Ahead of that game, he said.

‘We are here to win the tournament, it doesn’t matter who the opposition is. They are all quality players, we will give them respect but we want to win.’

For the Qatar game, Ward-Prowse was also honoured by being given the armband and skippering the side, having previously done the same at U19 level and he’d love to continue in that role if he can for the rest of the Tournament now.
