Chairman Ralph Krueger has that the ‘highest quality managers’ in Europe have already expressed their interest in taking on the manager role at the club following the resignation of Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking to saintsfc with the manager search well under way, Krueger said that behind the scenes the structure was already in place for information gathering so the board of the club could look at profiles and develop a high quality shortlist of potential managers ready for interviews.
‘We have the highest quality managers in Europe knocking on our door. We also have the highest quality available players and their agents knocking on our door. There’s a lot of exciting people that want to come here.’
Krueger admits that at this time of year, as is normal, the main focus in the press is on players leaving and he acknowledges that will hot up now owing to the departure of our manager, but the focus for him and the club has to be on our future direction and not the speculation in the press.
‘I believe the fact there’s so much interest in our manager and our players is also a sign that we’re doing the right things here in Southampton.’
He goes on to say that our Football Director, Les Reed, is basically snowed under with managers who have declared an interest in taking this club forward, and despite the obvious nervousness and upheaval fans feel at the moment, he believes the club itself has never been in a stronger position to kick on and move forward positively now.
‘We have 20 people working full time on scouting and recruitment. We have seven people all over Europe, seven domestic and four to six in the office. These people are not playing cards, they are out there collecting data, statistics, profiles etc and not just on players.’
Krueger says the very same people were involved in scouting Pochettino himself so he has more than enough faith that their analysis will again lead to a very high calibre appointment in the near future.
